L’Oreal Colorsonic Hair Color Device Review – Does it Really Work?

I recently tried out a new way to color my hair, with a device called the Colorsonic. Read on for the full L’Oreal Colorsonic Hair Color Device review after using it to dye part of my hair a dark blond. There’s also a Tiktok video showing me using it at the end of the post.

I was sent this product free to try for an honest review. I do not make any money off sales if you decide to buy one. I also did not use it to do the roots on the top of my head because I have highlights. I used it to do the roots and lengths of the bottom half of my hair.

The Colorsonic is a new at-home hair coloring device by L’Oreal Paris. It does take a little effort to assemble and learn how to use. I watched a couple videos before setting it up and giving it a try.

Once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. You load the color cartridge and press a button until the color starts to flow freely. Then you put it to your roots, and it separates the hair and deposits the color at your roots.

If you want to do your lengths, you add an attachment and use that and the provided gloves to saturate the hair in small sections.

Then you just wait and rinse.

After coloring, you remove the cartridge and insert a different cartridge filled with water. Press the on button and let the water run through the device for several minutes until clean.

There are some things I really liked about the L’Oreal Paris Colorsonic Hair Color Device. If you are game for learning a new tool and watching an instructional video, then you may like it. But there are some cons you might want to be aware of as well.

ProsNo Mess, easy application. No mixing products. No need to divide hair, it does it for you.Easier to get your whole head done evenly by yourself.Color came out evenly, so it does a good job of coverage.Color cartridges can be used more than once, depending on the hair length. The average is three uses.ConsYou have less control over exactly where the color goes, and it doesn’t take into account how long your roots are. It deposits the same amount for everyone. You can’t see the color level in the cartridge, so you should always have a spare ready in case it runs out.Color cartridges can get pricey and usually cost about $30 eachIt takes a while to do really long hair, so it isn’t the best for overall color if you have long strands. It’s easy to clean, but it does take a while for the water to all run through. I felt like I was standing there for a while pressing the button. Would I recommend it?

Overall, I would recommend the L’Oreal Colorsonic Hair Color Device for basic hair needs- short roots, color maintenance, covering grays, etc. It’s not something for a big color change or overall color if you have really long hair. I think it would be a great maintenance tool for short to shoulder length hair that doesn’t need a dramatic color change.

Will I be abandoning my hair stylist in favor of the Colorsonic? No, I still want her to take care of my roots because I have highlights and need a lot of color lift to get my hair blond.

But I would keep using it if I had shorter hair and more simple hair color needs.

You can find the Colorsonic for about $124 in stores like Target, and on the L’Oreal website at: L’Oreal Paris
