“MR. LAURENCE, I PRESUME…” BY JOSEPH SCIUTO

Eighteen-year-old Joe has taken a serious bump to the head, and his beloved girlfriend, Angie, has landed on the wrong side of the law as a result of an untenable situation.

How is a young couple supposed to start a life together when one of them is behind bars and the other is too immature to cope?

Enter Mr. Laurence, a mysterious veteran and charming philanthropist who brings magic and healing wherever he goes.

Beloved in the Long Island enclave where he continues his in-laws’ mission to save endangered children, Mr. Laurence and his scintillating wife, Isabelle, take Joe under their wing and help the young man chart a new direction toward success.

The ripple effects of Mr. Laurence’s generosity extend to everyone in Joe’s circle, and offers Angie a path to recovery. With the support of her “adopted family,” Angie becomes a survivor. She learns to cope with her demons and uses that power, not only to survive, but to thrive.

Inspired by Emily Brontë’s classic novel, “Wuthering Heights,” and the subsequent movie starring Sir Laurence Oliver, “Mr. Laurence, I Presume” tells a story of triumph over adversity, acceptance, the power of forgiveness and a love that not even death can conquer.

Knut L. Congratulations Joseph with a new novel. It had a nice title and the idea of referring / using ? Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights" sounds fun. If it is possible to use the term "fun" about that novel.

Best Knut

Joseph Sciuto Thanks, Knut. I'm not sure if many people relate "fun," to the amazingly talented Bronte sisters.

Knut L. You are right. I did not know what word to use in English. "Interesting"? By the way, I have read Ernaux: The years (In Norwegian). The French edition is full of French puns on the first pages (e,g. pp. 13), and I have looked into their translations in Norwegian, English and German. That is fun. Have you read the novel? She got the Nobel price, but to me it was only medium good.

Joseph Sciuto Hi Knut:
I have never read Ms. Ernaux. In fact, I know very little about her but after quickly scanning her bio. I just might take a look at some of her work. The Nobel Prize Committee is not perfect in its selection of winners. How Bob Dylan, who I personally like, got the Nobel Prize for Literature is still mind blowing to me. A quick fact, Albert Einstein did not receive the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "Theory Of Relativity" but in 1921 for his theory of 'photoelectric effect.' One could argue that both theories are exceptionally important, but his "Theory of Relativity," to me, is the more important one. Have wonderful Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Your friend, Joe
