"UFO - Destruct Positive"
Just finished listening to "UFO - Destruct Positive" released by Big Finish Productions.
"UFO" was Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's first outing at a live action series back in the early 1970s and sadly while it only lasted just a single season in syndication worldwide, it became a cult classic which focused on an undeclared war humanity is waging against an unknown alien race that is abducting humans and harvesting their organs for some unknown reason. "UFO" was seen as the precursor of "Space: 1999" and "Space: 1999's" Moonbase Alpha was originally conceived as an expanded moonbase for SHADO's lunar defense base.
In fact, Big Finish Production's relaunch of "Space: 1999" did link the two series together, hinting that perhaps humanity won the war or were still fighting it.
"UFO - Destruct Positive" is Big Finish Production's relaunching of the Andersons' popular cult television series and updating it for more modern audiences. While not definite, it does seem that "UFO" is set firmly in the 1980s, despite Big Finish Productions' habit of gender swapping some of a show's original characters.
"UFO - Destruct Positive" relaunches the series at it's beginning - when Ed Straker is a test pilot whose encounter with a UFO that destroys the experimental airship that is the prototype for SHADO's Skydiver. Straker survives but is soon caught up in a military conspiracy that threatens his life as he slowly uncovers the truth that Earth is under attack from unknown aliens. He soon becomes the Supreme Commander of SHADO and builds up the organization as Earth's secret defense force while learning the terrifying truth about the motivations behind the aliens.
A good start to relaunch this cult series.
Strongly Recommended!
Five Stars!
