Working Democracy.
Over a great many years mankind has struggled to find the most fair and just way to organise itself. At first, there were small separate groups led by a chieftain that in time were amalgamated or conquered to become nations. The problem with this was the head chief might have been good or bad and could not be changed unless they died or were slain. The populace had no say in the everyday running of things so a structure of representatives was formed and a constitution that stayed regardless of who was in control as the head chief. A new concept of voting for the head chief evolved and democracy was born.
However, as often idealistic in theory and not in practice, this truthful depiction does not end there. Certain candidates for head chief were individuals that did not share the concept of democracy and once elected, were not willing to abide by its rules. They manipulated the truth to conform with keeping them in power and deliberately spread false accusations to discredit any opposition to their position.
Once in power, they attempted to manipulate the constitution to ensure their continued tenure as head chief. Control could corrupt and even democracy as an idea, has often been put in jeopardy.
These individuals who, albeit acknowledge that agenda for controlling power or not, can be a part of almost any political system. They are not limited to one country or one time period. Since mankind has tried to govern itself justly, there has always been the threat of dictatorship.
It is only by the actions of the populace to recognise and ameliorate the situation, before it is too late, that true working democracy can win.
