Monument for a Forgotten Future

The Monument for a Forgotten Future is a modern stone sculpture by Olaf Nicolai, Douglas Gordon and the Scottish rock band Mogwai. It is situated on Wilde Insel island in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The sculpture imitates a rock formation found in the southern Californian Joshua Tree National Park. In the summer months, a sound installation by Mogwai can be heard and intensifies the effect. The music comes out of the stone and runs for 26 minutes.
