Reader Supported Listening

Dear Everyone,
A few weeks ago, I asked readers to tell me what songs they would place on the soundtrack to Gabriel's Inferno. I was pleasantly surprised when I received tweets and messages from readers around the world, recommending various music. I've included references to several songs in the novel, but I was interested in hearing what the readers thought would make a good soundtrack.
The song that stood out amongst the recommendations was No Light, No Light by Florence + The Machine. Rebecca C. sent the song to me, which you can listen to here.
The lyrics that caught my attention: "No light, no light in your bright blue eyes. I never knew daylight could be so violent. The revelation in the light of day ..."
I'm still meditating on the violence of daylight.
Readers recommended many different kinds of music and I found myself introduced to several new bands. Here's a list of some of the songs:
"Sinister Kid" by The Black Keys. "That's me, that's me - the boy with the broken halo. The devil won't let me be ..."
"Broken" by Livingstone. "Broken in silence, I adore you ..."
"Fix You" by Coldplay.
"If You Only Knew" by Shinedown.
"Arms" by Christina Perri.
"A Drop in the Ocean," by Ron Pope. *I enjoyed listening to this song very much.
"Sigh No More," by Mumford and Sons.
"Entre tus alas," by Camila.
"In the End," by Snow Patrol.
"For The First Time," by The Script.
"I Love You," by Sarah McLachlan.
"Cloudbusting," by Kate Bush.
"Amazed," by Lonestar.

Thank you to everyone who sent a suggestion. I invite more musical recommendations in the comments below.
In light of the Professor's passion for museums (and their inherent seductive possibilities), I'll be posting a series of entries on the museums of the world, beginning tomorrow.

All the best and thanks for reading,
SR

Britnie If you enjoyed A Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope you definitely need to check out some of his other stuff. I listened to 'Wait for You' a couple of times while reading 'Gabriel's Inferno'. I look forward to listening to some of these tracks I've never heard before. I love 'No Light, No Light' by Florence and the Machine. I never thought of how fitting the lyrics were for this novel before :)

Sylvain Reynard Hello Dietchgirl, Saskia and Elena,
Thank you for your comments and also for your recommendations.

I'm going to need to craft another soundtrack in order to incorporate these suggestions.

All the best and thanks again,
SR

message 7: by Houshig (new)

Houshig I kept replaying Matew Barber's "You and Me" starting from the momnet it was mentioned in the book to it's end... still replaying, by the way :)

message 8: by Djag (new)

Djag This is so much fun! I am going to give this more thought but the songs that I kept thinking about while reading this book were Angel Eyes by Sting and Strip by Depeche Mode. Despite Julia's abhorrence to Nine Inch Nails I find many of the songs fitting though I suspect it wouldn't be appropriate to include them since both characters swear never to listen to Trent.

Angel Eyes

Have you ever had the feeling
That the world's gone and left you behind
Have you ever had the feeling
That you're that close to losing your mind

You look around each corner
Hoping that she's there
You try to play it cool perhaps
Pretend that you don't care

But it doesn't do a bit of good
You got to seek till you find
Are you never unwind

Try to think
That love is not around
Still it's uncomfortably near

My old heart
Ain't gaining no ground
Because my angel eyes ain't here

Angel eyes
That old devil sent
They glow unbearably bright
Need I say
That my love's misspent
Misspent with angel eyes tonight

So drink up all you people
Order anything you see
Have fun you happy people
The drink and the laugh's on me

Pardon me
But I gotta run
The fact's uncomfortably clear
Gotta find
Who's now number one
And why my angel eyes ain't here
Tell me why my angel eyes ain't here
Excusez moi my angel eyes ain't here
Excuse me while I disappear

Stripped

message 9: by Djag (new)

Djag Come with me
Into the trees
We'll lay on the grass
And let the hours pass

Take my hand
Come back to the land
Let's get away
Just for one day

Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone

Metropolis
Has nothing on this
You're breathing in fumes
I taste when we kiss
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/depeche+... ]
Take my hand
Come back to the land
Where everything's ours
For a few hours

Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone
Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone

Let me hear you
Make decisions
Without your television
Let me hear you speaking
Just for me

Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone

Let me hear you speaking
Just for me

Let me see you
Stripped down to the bone

Let me hear you crying
Just for me

Jennifer Lane Hi SR, I can imagine how your lyrical prose could inspire many musical connections for your readers. I always thought the night was more violent than the daylight, hmm. ;) I love Warning Sign by Coldplay and many others listed here.

Shannon Hey SR, here are a couple of songs I thought of...
"Be The One" and "She Is" by The Fray and "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star. I also really like "The Writer" by Ellie Goulding. I'm really enjoying listening to all the other suggestions! Great Idea for a post!
