I started the Humans of New York Patreon several years ago and I’ve asked people to join exactly once, on the first day it was created. (If that gives any indication of my shyness around money.) But thousands of people have discovered it anyway. And the support they’ve provided has been absolutely essential to the creation of Humans of New York. Over the years HONY has featured thousands of stories from over 40 countries. It’s provided a platform and voice for so many deserving people. And along the way we’ve fundraised over $20 million to help alleviate burdens. All of this has been done without a single sponsored post or advertisement, and the primary reason for this is the support of Patreon subscribers. I realize that many people only read a story every once in a while, and that is more than fine. For the people who read the stories more frequently, thank you so much for your constant presence. As an artist, it’s far more valuable to me than money. And for the longest time it’s been all I’ve cared about. But my own family is growing.
