"Readers of Bank Street, Peter Cavalier's first Jerry Flanagan novel, will be happy to know that Jerry, Maria and the full cast of family and friends pick up in Flanagan's Flight where we left them at the end of Bank Street. We see them enter the next phase of life as Jerry and Maria try to balance careers, home life and kids. Jerry still needs some seasoning as and adult - witness the business trip midnight ride in a "borrowed" golf cart. He's solid as ever though, and maybe because of that his banking assignments aren't as glamorous or lucrative as those of his free wheeling fee chasing associates during the time of crazy corporate leveraged buyouts - think Drexel-Burnham. He makes his move from regional to national and international level commercial banking and finds himself on the road, over-extended and stressing his home life. He's a good provider, but Maria's career and aspiration take a frustratingly second place as she is forced to manage the home front and kids in Jerry's frequent absences. But as ever, Jerry is emotionally smart and takes on a new more low-key role in the audit department in hopes of making things work out. Maybe to Jerry and our surprise, he hit's his stride as an auditor - a job where he can apply his analytical skills to make sure his bank and associates are doing the right thing. He catches hold of a big deliciously villainous fish and as, amazing at it may sound, author Peter Cavalier is able to turn the tale of a commercial bank audit into about 80 pages of real page turner stuff. There are many stops along the way, Three-Mile Island, beating the Russians at ice hockey in 1980, Black Monday on the stock market, famous World Series games, plane crashes all of which evoke the personal memories of the reader. Cavalier can take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride - what's wrong with that! One caution, there is plenty of spicy stuff, between Jerry and Maria in these pages. Not a bad thing, just be prepared! So what's next for Jerry and Maria as they get ready for middle-age? I hope time will tell."
