Unglamorous

I think this is the latest I’ve ever posted the Sunday blog. It’s been quite a day. We picked up Bex and Henry from Steve’s dad’s place (we arrived last night, had a fab BBQ, slept on their front lawn and then came away this morning – thanks Paul and Janet) and drove across the country to mum’s today. I have to say the reaction of both mum and her great grandson was priceless. Mum was over the moon – and Henry was as coy and as fabulous as he could be. It was a perfect time. Well done to both of them. Then this evening I’ve taken a work call and got some 360 admin done, and now I’m penning this. It doesn’t stop sometimes.

Thanks Paul and Janet priceless

But, I have to say, it is special to have mum and baby in the van with us. And tomorrow we head home, unpack (the most unglamorous of any of the motorhome activities) and then pick up Jen and head off to Newquay for three nights. A proper Ladley holiday. I can’t wait. I’m sure there’s some equivalent Hollywood second rate comedy starring Chevy Chase which would match what our break will look like … I’ll let you know. And it does feel like we have just under two weeks of holiday with Bex and Henry to look forward to, before she catches her flight …. a proper break, albeit I do have some work to do.

And our final couple of days at our site at Lichfield was fab. We completed a 30-mile cycle ride, a good slab of which was down the Coventry Canal – a lovely wide, leafy canal with a decent towpath. We turned at the 15 mile point and had a picnic watching the boats go by. That sparked an idea which we both agreed with. Assuming that foreign travel is unlikely through to next year, from here on in when we go away in Doris we intend to park within cycling distance of a canal. We have one of those UK-wide maps which show all of the waterways – we will now start to highlight the stretches we have cycled down. And then fill in the gaps. It seems rude not to.

Well that’s it from me. We have that awful journey home to Bristol tomorrow – A12/M25/M4. Four hours of relentless, uninteresting driving. I’ll survive.

In the meantime, stay safe everyone.
