Things are starting to open up in California and the boys have had their first vaccine dose, so we decided to attempt our first family lunch at a restaurant since the pandemic hit. (There’s a sushi joint near us that has tables outside that are all really well distanced.)
While there, the boys were misbehaving a lot. It was like trying to have a meal with two feral chimps. I finally barked at them, “Guys, you’re acting like you’ve never been to a restaurant before.”
Wyatt replied, “Well, it has been a year.”
He’s right. And it made me realize something terrifying. No one has really explored exactly how all of our kids — especially very young ones — will need to be re-socialized after all of this is over. A whole generation has spent an entire year with very little social interaction and therefore they haven’t been honing their social skills as much as they normally would.
Guys… this re-entry is going to be utter chaos.
