Heartfelt and Inspirational
This book of memories has everything. It starts with a dry humour story about camping but you quickly learn that the person who goes camping as an adult was also a child who experienced loss, abuse and abandonment. Barbara Godin writes beautifully... her words so stark but so moving you feel the pain, the anxiety and the desperation of the child that I just wanted to hug her and make everything better. Having said that, we see from other stories in the book that the author grows up to be a resilient, empathetic and forgiving person who is determined not to repeat the mistakes she experienced as a child but not without the lovable pets she has had over the years! There is a story or memory for everyone in Barbara’s book. There are grandmother stories, pet stories, “new love” stories and memories of grief. Like any book of short stories you can pick up this book, put it down and then pick it back up but the sheer heartfelt memories, poems and short fictional stories made me want to read the autobiography the author teases at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book.❤❤❤
