of glen, of hours and sting

oh were I a bird, winged
and slight,
a feathered thing to catch
some thermal and be
carried to you.

Can we fill that place,
that valley we
shouted across
with all those
blind to this,
can we let our voices
dance above them,
tangled and entwined?

Can theirs become garbled
and din, vanish into
the white noise of stream,
of river?

Somewhere, miles above the
sound of water,
the bridge we built,

never again will I wish
for wings.
