Beauty begins in cocoon,
some shell of a thing
that holds the mess of us,
the we before transformation.
Car like a chrysalis
you asked to hold my hand.
Sometimes, what insulates us
from the outside,
locks everything else in.
Loss like a hibernation,
didn’t we grow
from all that left us here?
Wasn’t it wings that
were promised?
If I took it for granted,
the flight or the wings,
yours or mine,
the way we grew through
all that metamorphosis,
I will sing the song of
apology
until you remember
the words.
Love like a chrysalis,
I’m asking to hold
your hand.
