After four revisions and about 10 rejections over two years, my science fiction short story "Adjudicated" finally has been published in Astral Waters Review, a speculative fiction journal of work by people of color and/or LGBTQ+. This is my fourth science fiction story publication, not counting my booklet
Secret Insurrection: Stories from a Novel of a Future Time.
The story is about a woman who suffers the consequences of a near-future carceral system in which mass incarceration has been replaced by a particularly invasive form of surveillance.
I've had three theatrical companies pay me (or offer to pay me--Twin Cities Pride got canceled, so I lost out on that) to perform a monologue version of "Adjudicated," but this is the first time any version of it has been published.
