Gravitational, I call it, and explain away
the pull.  Perhaps this is our sun,
I say, and we orbit around it,
you and I the planets we never
called ourselves.

Cratered, we,
battered by time and darkness
and the impact of all
we could not stop.
Fractured, perhaps, fault lines
that run deep,
though we glow from the fires below.
Half of us is shine, the face
we turn to the warmth
illuminated, half of us is shade,
and aren’t we whole
because of this?

We of different paths, we of
orbits wide, I know how close
we come.  Somewhere, on your
cracked and cratered surface,
my flag will be planted,
somewhere, on my stormy seas,
your ship will sail.

Gravitational, I call it, and
wonder of our pull.  Closer,
I say, come closer,
and we will crash together,
you and I the planets
we never called ourselves.
