On PPSMI: Many Opted for BM

An excerpt from my letter on PPSMI (Many Opted for BM); published in today's New Straits Times:

"Deserving attention should be given to students' performances in other subjects as well, such as Bahasa Malaysia, History as well as Islamic and Moral studies.

It seems like these non-technical subjects are being neglected in our fascination with Science and Mathematics, hence sending the message that to be "successful" means excelling in the technical subjects only.
"

May it be beneficial.
Apart from that, inshaallah, this coming Sunday (Jan 15), Dialog Orang Muda (DOM) will be discussing the same topic. The title of the forum is "PPSMI: Kita Tewas?"

The panelists are Dr Mohammad Alinor from Akademi Sains Islam Malaysia (ASASI), Imran Mustafa (Himpunan Keilmuan Muslim (HAKIM)) and Ng Yap Hwa (Pusat Pengembangan Kebudayaan LLG). It will be moderated by Arif Atan (Akademi Pengajian Melayu, UM).
