You write of love when you’re in it,
but alienation follows,
those searching, those who
know it only as lost, or not yet arrived,
do not read the words
as you wrote them, as you intended.
Letters become barbs, become
swords of reminder, we with
shields forget the sting of metal
on flesh unarmored.
Apologies, offered here, freely,
not for the love
but for the forgetting, for the
insensitivity
that comes holding hands
with this celebration.
There is more to stay here for
than apology and gushing heart,
you will see.
