Today
I learned that passion is passion
and rejects the labels that are so often forced upon it.
That sadness and heartache can turn
morph and alter themselves to the frantic breath
and hands that just can’t cover enough skin.
That tears can fall and without knowing when or how
turn to the burning of flesh and the need for more fingers
and more palms to hold tighter and touch more.
Today
I learned that the swollen and melancholy of a heart
can be an aphrodisiac you never intended on finding.
That arms of comfort and consoling can change the tone
of their holding and cling with new purpose. Cling as if
trying to strip off the skin of separation and melt together.
That a kiss holds more weight than a shoulder ever could
and your body pressed tightly against mine with your eyes
above my eyes stops the shake and replaces it with a new trembling.
Today
I learned that there is no barrier or restriction to how much
how fast and how deeply passion can run.
That no matter what you call it, how you decide to define it
it’s tangible and real and can pass between us like one
shared breath while held underwater, the breath that keeps us alive.
That heat rises but it also falls when it goes from my chest
to yours and sinks back to me before rising to you again
as if unable to land and unable to rest before moving on.
Today
I learned that there is no substitute, there is no replacement
for the unmatched and unrivaled craving of another soul.
That the world stops spinning, if only for those moments
when desire takes shape and burns with the frenzy and fuel
of waiting and wishing and wondering and wanting.
That not having and not being what you need to have and be
ties knots to the strings inside us and anchors them
securely and forever to the heart just below those burning ribs.
