Promises made and kept,
good leather tied
to tree branch,
a decade could not
erode it.
Windswept and fragile,
some, but I’ve never
made this kind,
never will.
If I offer it, it is stone,
it is foundation,
it is steel against
the shaking.
I promised us,
years before you saw
the hope of it,
kept it, finally,
then broke the
branch.
