Brainwaves.

In an increasingly competitive life whereby everybody seems to feel compelled to do better or be better, one of the main occupations for many people does involve self improvement. Living your best life and finding your perfect means to do so is not always straightforward and to this end people spend a huge amount of money on various ideas about how to create the new Super You!

Without doubt mind and body are related, so an understanding of the mind in preparation for any kind of self development, would seem a good place to start. The state of mind in biological terms is reflected by electrical cycles that are measured in hertz. There are different frequencies of intensity and all states are present but become more or less dominant according to the state of being, hence the more relaxed one is, the lower the frequency of their brainwaves.

When fully wide awake and active the figure is 13 to 40 and is called the Beta state. This every day alertness is a result of the state of thinking and having ideas. However there is a more intense state that ranges upwards of 40 to 100 hertz and this is associated with the feeling of elation and super power.

The mind has two modes of being, the conscious and subconscious, Alpha is less active and ranges from 13 down to 7 and is the state of daydreaming, children are often most prone to enjoy this pleasant state. Next is Theta with a narrow range of 7 to 4 and this usually is just before the last stage of Delta which is 4 to 0. The last stage is very important for good health, as this is the time when the body can refresh itself.

Interesting conclusions can be drawn between people’s brainwaves and how they behave. One suggestion is that the wide awake Beta state of mind is in control of how we behave. In actual fact, it is only 5 per cent that is in control of this physical and emotive activity and the rest can be attributed to the subconscious. So in order to change, it is not the intellect but people’s subconscious mental view of how things are, that is a true starting point.

Every time one goes to sleep and then wakes up is the best time to induce that change. This is because the subconscious mind accepts, without judgement, everything to be true. At that particular time the brain and subsequently mindful thoughts are also more affected by images and emotion. If the notion of brainwaves is to be used as a tool, then affirmation and imagery of a successful changed you could be useful to focus on just before drifting off into a deep sleep. It can be useful not to highlight negative thoughts as these could be what is limiting to a belief about present day ability.

Brainwaves, the concept of how thoughts and impulses influence daily success and failure, have long been a point of investigation. In the past, one of the main theories focused on how critical remarks tended to be held on to by individuals, especially in their formative years. Impacting behaviour and belief about self development, the idea about what you think not only about yourself but the pressures around you, definitely play a part in what you do and what you can do in the future.
