Hi there. I won a huge prize last week. I am still in shock. It is called the Harbourfront Festival Prize, and it goes to one Canadian writer a year. Previous winners have included Alice Munro, Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Dionne Brand, and Wayson Choy. It is awarded for one's writing, but also for one's contribution to the Canadian literary world.
I have won some small prizes along the way, but I never expected to win anything big. What will happen? Will it change anything for me? Will anyone new read my books?
Either way, it really feels good to get this kind of validation.
