How to make it into someone's book...

Here's a funny story for the Faithful!

Austin and I met after work yesterday afternoon for some fine-tuning work on the outline for O2, the next book in The Eternal Elements series. So we're camped out at our "Power Table"*** in our local Barnes and Noble pounding away and genning up ideas in a ferocious cyclone of creative energy. As usual when we're in this state of mind, we weren't really paying much attention to the folks around us while this was happening...

As we're working, this very nice, lovely lady next to us who is obviously of Indian descent starts asking us questions. It's clear that she's picked up that we're not just hanging out in this Barnes and Noble to sip cappuccinos, but that there's something more going on here. As we chat, she soon learns that we're published and before long, we're having a grand ol' time.

As we talk, Austin and I discover that she's in medical school and that she is studying to be an Internist. Instantly a light-bulb goes off for Austin and I! In O2, you see, there's a certain point where the story needs a doctor, specifically an Internist, who helps out the main character and someone close to her. Not being one of the primary characters, this Internist had not yet been clearly defined as a major player in the book (other than a couple of notes about needing them to fill said role and do a couple of specific things, etc...)

Suddenly, we had the character!

This nice young lady, who is named Soumya Reddy, will now be appearing in our next book.

Just. that. simple. ;)

So, Faithful...what do you think the moral of the story is? I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions! Post them as comments below... :)

***Oh! Remind me sometime to blog about the "Power Table"...
