Weekly Writer's Round-Up
Yee-haw! Welcome to the Weekly Writer's Round-up, where I lasso up the week's latest news and rootin'-tootin' writers' articles on the Net!
On my brief forays out from my editing cave, I have come across some really useful sites this week:
Firstly, this is the mother lode for crime writers everywhere: Crime Writing Solutions, a blog offering guidance and advice to writers of crime fiction! With information about police procedures and protocol hard to come by, or written in inaccessible legalese, this site is a godsend! I'm looking forward to delving into the archives once I'm done with edits. For anyone in the area, they're also organising a weekend workshop called "Crime Fiction — Making it Real," at the West Yorkshire Police Training & Development Centre!
Speaking of workshops, Creative Writing Now is running an 8-week online writing course on "Bringing Characters to Life." More information about the course can be found here.
ePublish a Book has an insightful series of posts on Promoting vs. Marketing a Book, covering everything from pre-publication, to the book launch, to ongoing promotion afterwards.
More invaluable information, particularly for non-US authors: applying for that elusive ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) for US tax exemption (otherwise the IRS'll have 30% of your earnings!). Thanks to Lucy Felthouse for pointing me to this, the most easy-to-understand set of instructions for ITIN application I've found to date!
As the festive season draws ever closer, and the spirit of giving touches everyone's hearts, giveaways and contests are springing up all over the Internet. One of the most worthwhile ones has got to be Elizabeth Mueller's Debutante Ball: 20 days, 20 debut authors, and daily prizes to be won! What better way to support a debut author and to help increase his/her exposure?
Finally, there are 5 more days to join in the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. There are prizes to be won at every stop. Why not join the hop from my stop here, where I have three prizes up for grabs?
