“Mommmmiiieeee,” the little girl screamed. She pressed against her pillow and pulled her blanket tight. Katria knew the feeling. Hoping the blanket would somehow become a shield and make the monster go away.

“Shhh, sweetie, it’s okay,” Katria cooed. “I’ll make the monster go away.” She swung into the room and let the window down.

“Who are you?” the little girl whimpered. A dancing unicorn nightlight filled the room with  weird dancing shadow and covered the girl’s face giving a monster like mask.

“I’m the person who is going to kill the demon spawn before it possesses you.” Katria flashed her best smile.

“It’s a demon?” The girl croaked. “I thought they lived in Hell. I’ve been a good girl, why am I in Hell? And what is possesses?” Tears reflecting the pink light rolled down her cheeks.

“You’re not in Hell. Stay under the blanket, I don’t want you get burned by the blood when I blow the motherfucker up.” She eyed the demon. Six glowing orange eyes burned with hatred. Thick claws scraped across the floor.

“Mommmmm,” the little girl screamed again and moved to the edge of her bed.

“Get out that bed and you will die. And stop yelling, your mother can’t help. She’s probably dead.”

Again, the girl screamed but she’d moved deeper into the blankets.

“You have a real way with kids,” Thaddaeus announced stepping out of the shadows. “This will scar her for life, and you tell her that mom is dead, and she could get burned by demon blood?”

“Sorry, guess the witches the missed nurturing the lesson while raising me,” she rolled her eyes and drew out the gun. “Shit.” She shook the empty gun.

“If you stopped buying your water guns at the dollar store all the holy water wouldn’t leak out.”

The demon stopped and looked at her. His mouth opening revealing rows of jagged teeth. He burped releasing a cloud of toxic gas. If the gas seeped into a human host, the demon would go from a slight pain in her butt to a major boil on her ass.

Thaddaeus darted across the room and pulled the blanket over the girl’s head. She screamed.

“Who’s lacking in the kid skills now? You know she thinks you are trying to kill her,” She retorted and ran towards the demon pulling a scarf up over her mouth and nose. She was like ninety-nine point nine percent sure that the demon couldn’t invade her body but why take that chance?

She kicked ramming her foot into the side of the demon’s head. It burped again.

“Is that what you were going for? I mean I thought you were to contain it not let it find a host in this dimension.”

She glared at the ghost. Why her? She asked herself for the twelfth million time since that day so long ago that had landed her in a life of nightmares.

“Think you can do better?” She snarled and drew the star blades. They were covered veity oil. Swinging her arms in a wide rotation, she sliced through the demon’s thick skin.  Howls of anger filled the room, shaking the walls and rattling the windows. Plaster fell from the ceiling. The pictures the girl had colored and hung on her wall burst into flames.

“He’s a bit of a drama demon,” Thaddaeus stated shaking his head. “Do hurry up and return to your rightful place before this sweet child suffocates.”

“This is the best you have?” A voice sounded from behind her. “A first level demon and you can’t subdue it?”

She rolled her eyes. How the fuck did she get off this roller coaster circling through the nightmare known as her life.

“We’ve got,” she and Thaddaeus said together. She whispered the spell and released the power into the demon’s wounds. She dove another foot into the things face. Totally unnecessary but the appearance of Samuel rocketed her anger level off the charts.
