The Orphans of Raspay cover sneak peek

Or, the novella formerly known as Penric 7. Those four words took two weeks to devise, a very slow production rate, but they had to be the right words.

Cover art and design, again, by Ron Miller.

Vendor page copy will be, roughly:

When the ship in which they are traveling is captured by Carpagamon island raiders, Temple sorcerer Penric and his resident demon Desdemona find their life complicated by two young orphans, Lencia and Seuka Corva, far from home and searching for their missing father. Pen and Des will need all their combined talents of mind and magic to unravel the mysteries of the sisters and escape from the pirate stronghold.

This novella follows about a year after the events of “The Prisoner of Limnos”.

E-publication before the end of the month, I'm pretty sure; this week or next, maybe. I still have some last polishing and fretting to do on the text file, and then there is the vexing question of a map.

Later on, I hope to do an illustrated post about the development of the cover art.

Jerri Oh, a map, a map! I have been longing for a map or maps of the world of the Five Gods for years.

I'll be buying as soon as I can. Penric and Des and orphans, a mystery and pirates. Plenty of scope.

Karenhunt I love the cover!

Michaeline Duskova So exciting! It's also so remarkable how fast epublishing works, and how slow I've gotten these days.

It sounds like a great summer read -- adventure on a boat, amongst the Carpagamon islands!

What should we be reading into that name, I wonder? LOL.

message 4: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Oh, I love it! I am so very excited! Thank you for this, you've made my summer!

message 5: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Good! I'll get it as soon as it is out there...

William Rucklidge I'm loving the Penric books, and I hate to whine, but... would it be possible to make them available on Kobo's platform? Buying them elsewhere makes getting them onto my Kobo tricky. (Unless they were DRM-free, of course, but that's a much bigger kettle of fish.)

message 7: by Kosigan (new)

Kosigan Excellent news. I'm sure I'll have finished with my re-listen to the audio versions of the series so far by the time this comes along.

Thanks!

David Mcanulty Awesome, and it will be neat to read about your cover process. I feel like many books don't allow the authors any feedback about the cover. Of course, having to deliver things on a deadline myself I also realize many covers are likely the way they are due to just running out of time and not ideas. :)

message 17: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh happy day!

PS I really like seeing Barr all grown up in Knife Children Yina sounds like fun.
I forgave Barr everything when in Horizon he maneuvered Arkady Waterbirch out onto the Trace Road to continue Dag's training and then continued to help.

message 18: by Michael (new)

Michael Bush yeah to all especially the map.
Any way to get a 8 by 11 copy to frame for my wall?

message 19: by Jo (new)

Jo Welp, time for a Prisoner of Limnos re-read. Will Nikys feature, I wonder?

message 20: by Brutuska (new)

Brutuska Just have finished Prisoner of Limnos yesterday, checked the news and the next book is almost here. Thank you

message 21: by Jerri (new)

Jerri Just did a re-read of Prisoner of Limnos, and am trying to figure out how Pirates can capture Pen and Des, considering the various things Des planned to use against Pirates if they attacked on that trip. How can I wait till the new tale is published and I can find out. Perhaps they are asleep? Or there are known to be innocent captives on the pirate ship so Des can't just sink it? I know I should wait for The Orphans of Raspay and read it and find out!!!

message 22: by Susan (new)

Susan Can't find it on Barnes & Noble or Book Depository, even as a pre-order. I hope it will eventually be available for the Nook, which is where all my other Pen & Des books are. Some day I want them all on paper, but the current ones are way too expensive. :-(
