Who are you doing this for? Oct. 29
If you were the last one on this Earth and there was no one else around, would you continue doing what you are doing? Would you continue being creative?
Basically, its a question of..are you doing this because you love it?
Or for the applause of other people?
I have to stop and think.
I write for readers.
I write so people can read and enjoy my words and feel closer to God.
I mean, what good are my books if there is no one to read them?
And my philosophy is that if just ONE person gets closer to God, than it's worth it ALL this hassle, time, money and energy.
And I felt guilty for thinking that the basis of my writing career comes from what other people think, say, read and buy.
But I then remember my own journey. I would have to rewind a ways back... when I was in elementary school. When I started keeping a journal at eight years old. When English class was the only subject that came easy for me. Back in school, when I would rather write a 10page essay than take an exam with multiple choice test questions.
And that's when my love of writing started.
So if I was the last person on this Earth, I would probably keep writing in my journal…I would probably still write about my love of God…and even if my writings brought ME closer to God, well, then it would be worth it!
I wanted to share a piece about working for the applause of man:
From the 2001 article titled: "Does it Matter What Others think?" by John Piper:
"The litmus test of Christ in our lives…is not the opinion of others. We want them to see Christ in us and love him…but we know they may be blind to Christ and resistant to Christ. So they may think of us just what they thought of him…Jesus wanted men to admire him and trust him. But he did not change who he was in order to win their approval. Nor can we. Yes, we want people to see us with approval when we are displaying that Jesus is infinitely valuable to us, but we dare not make the opinion of others the measure of our faithfulness. They may be blind and resistant to truth. Then the reproach we bear is no sign of our unfaithfulness or lack of love."
If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray for you.
