Preparing for Pride and Passion
Having a dream turn into my reality is a situation that feels like it's bloomed right out of my wildest...well, dreams. I've always written, it was just a part of me. Little fake books as a kid, fanfictions through middle school (and high school and college and...ok fine, I've never grown out of fanfiction), poems when I'm moody, my daily diary, and now a novel! I don't think I've ever lived without writing. Not to say that I've always been a particularly good writer but, like with all things, that's (hopefully) developed with practice. Lots and lots of practice.
Now that you're here, reading this and (probably?) caring about what I have to say, I should probably write with full disclosure: I did not write Pride and Passion with the plan to publish it. At least, I did not write Pride and Passion with any plans to publish it on a professional level. Really, I wrote this story for a few friends on the internet and my own joy. All of the characters were originally named after the ones in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and the piece was shared in circles of my fellow Austenites. It was a bit of a fun! A smutty story starring my favorite romantic leads, but as it grew in popularity (and was shared more than I had realized it might be), I began to take it more seriously. I took on the long-going task of developing, editing, and reorganizing it until it became something I had never dealt with before: a completed manuscript! Hurrah!
The idea of my story, one I wrote for fun without any consideration for mincing tropes or love scenes, being shared with more than a few carefully selected friends is daunting but exciting! It's odd, but even as someone who has shared her writing online for over a decade, I'm finding it rather intimidating to think of the broader audience Pride and Passion now has the opportunity to find. Sharing my writing is far scarier when it's with more than a few friends from the internet!
Still, every day I find myself learning and growing as a writer, coming into contact with amazingly generous writers and bloggers, and accepting that this novel certainly has a mind of its own---and I couldn't be more grateful for that, or excited to see where its journey takes me next!
So I thank you, sincerely, for taking this journey with me. I can't promise where we're going, but I can guarantee there will be lots of love, laugh, and growth along the way. And, for now, that's enough for me.
While waiting for the release of Pride and Passion on October 1, 2018 I hope you will consider subscribing to my blog and following me on social media for more updates!
