When Romance Means Three (or more)

Today I'm blogging on Love Bytes Reviews about writing poly relationships in romance, and the idea of opening up to different pictures of what real love looks like.

Yeah, me too (even if according to the stock site it is supposed to be "successful businessmen celebrating" I think there's something else going on there.)

Jess ✨ℬℴℴк ∞❤∞ ℒℴvℯr✨ Thank you for such a well written and insightful piece. I cannot wait to read your Triad books (well, i actually say that about all your work).

<3 thank you.

Madonna196 Love your novels Kaje, but i will have to give a pass on these. I’m sure they’ll be well written, but I don’t have any interest in triads or young adult characters.

Some people don't. Which is fine, just like some people don't want to read my fantasy books, or some don't like werewolves, or historical, or whatever. I love writing across genres and characters, and I know that not all my readers like to read across all of them.

Thanks for the good words about my other books :)

Nat Kennedy Nice article. I'm also writing a balanced triad in my Wielder World series and in other works I've got going. I love the idea of threesome relationships and how they can work. You gave me some things to think about!

Josy Very interesting post, Kaje! Thank you for that :)

I was very interested in the panel at EPC you mentioned (I was the one who asked a few questions, lol!)

Being ace and living with a sexual partner, I was trying to get more comfortable with the idea of being in a poly or open relationship. I started with reading romances that feature more than two partners but sadly I still find myself balking at these 'uneven' relationships you mentioned in your post. I always feel like someone gets left out and it leaves me very unsettled. Changing my perspective about what love and romance is may be the key here! Right now, there aren't many good romances out there featuring a poly relationship - especially outside of a BDSM setting - and I agree with you that we need more of them!

Personally, I think I'm just not cut out for a poly or open relationship but I'm still interested in reading good books about them. And who knows? Maybe one day I'll be more comfortable with the idea in real life :)

<3 It's such a personal thing, what works between people. I don't think I could do open, although I applaud those who are secure enough to do so and enjoy it. Poly? I don't know. A relationship is work, and balancing two people seems like it's simpler, although not necessarily easier, than three. But just hearing different perspectives is so valuable. That was a great panel. Good luck on your journey.

Cool, I hope you have fun writing yours. I believe in broadening our understanding of how a relationship can be successfully defined, between consenting adults, so more books are welcome.

Thanks, Kaje :)
Sometimes I think an open relationship would be easier to handle for me but I'm sure I'm kidding myself. Poly is intriguing but like you said, I'm guessing it's a lot of work to balance three or more people. Anyway, I agree with you about hearing different perspectives being valuable and I applaud authors like you, who are working on bringing 'unconventional' relationships to life through your books :)
