So You Want to Kill Yourself

Psychic pain, that feeling of torment that exists in the emotional part of the brain, can be every bit as debilitating as the physical variety. A feeling of emptiness that can never be filled, a torture of past actions that can never be lived down, or the devastation of a loss that leaves a chasmic void in its wake. All can leave a person convinced that the only way out is the ultimate exit. Concommitant with those feelings are the justifications that build in the individual’s mind. They’ll be better off without me. They’ll get over it eventually. My present state is worse for them than my absence. All of which are patently untrue, but soothing delusions that enable suicide.
