Day 17: Better Than A Postcard #everydayadventure

Happy Sunday! I love how cities slow down for Sundays. Shops close, people sleep in, and a sense of quiet peace replaces the week’s general busyness.

We sang Reckless Love by Cory Asbury.

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine

And I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

The sermon matched the truth found in the song.

Psalm 149:4 says, “For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.”

Not only does God love us, but He delights in us, the way a father does in his children. Even though God didn’t have to do anything for us, he choose to do everything. How often do we do things for others when we don’t have to? Or do we measure our world by give and take, instead of give-give-give?

This is my prayer on this quiet Sunday: “Lord, you are everything I need. You spin the planets around the sun and you tap out the rhythm to every heartbeat. You hold the clouds above us and stir the ocean below.”

It amazes me that God would delight in me, that he wants to be with me, hold me, provide for me, protect me, grow me, and fill me up with the abundance of His love.

After the evening service, my friends and I clung to the rails as the bus bounced down the road to the beach. We went to the “pebble” beach which has tiny pebbles instead of gritty sand.

The water was icy, but refreshing. The salt in the waves seemed to hold me up whenever I laid back to float. Some of our friends joined a crowd near a slim pier, where teenagers somersaulted into the sea.

I sat on my half-towel long enough to let the sun dry my skin, then I walked over to a row of concrete steps. From the edge of the bridge, I watched tiny gray fish swim in circles next to moss-coated rocks.

A group near me were smoking something that smelled sickly sweet, like burnt cotton candy. I returned to my own group and tried to write. But words fell short when I tried to capture the majestic view.

I could try to describe the details of the clouds, the sky, the sea, the cliffs, but I couldn’t piece the words together to capture the harmony of the world around me. But how can I describe something that looks better than a postcard?

It may be obvious, but think about it. The picture above (which is a poor replica of the real thing) shows a tiny corner of what God designed. He picked out the shade of the sky, the texture of the waves, and the creases in the pebbles.

I was reminded today of God’s immense love for me and the great beauty of His creation.
