a little August update

First thought – much sympathy to anyone in Houston, and in Texas in general. I hope you stay safe.

Rewinding a bit: Fantasy in the Court was excellent, and the Nine Worlds convention was also excellent. (And going home to visit my parents and crash for a week or so after that was really excellent.)

I’ve handed in the final proofs for both the UK and the US versions of The Lost Plot. Irene and co are ready to go.

The Masked City (A Cidade das Máscaras) is now out in Brazil, and I really hope that people are enjoying it. (Nervous author, yes . . .)

September approaches. Great Northern Quilt Show next week. (Will I go? Definitely. Will I spend too much? Probably.) Trip to Austria scheduled for the beginning of October – my autumn holiday, and yes, I have booked a ticket to the opera while I’m there. Now I just need to find a way to write it off as expenses for research. (Perhaps a future location for Irene and Kai to visit . . .)

Kristina That sounds like a very exciting and fun couple of months!

Dian Achdiani Would you visit Indonesia too, in your way to Australia? It's not too far. And Irene and Kai maybe would visit Bali too, or Lombok, or Jogja xDD

Leanne Have fun! Can't wait for more of Irene and Kai!

Alas, I'm going to Austria, not Australia - though I would _love_ to visit Indonesia some day. (And Australia, too!) And I agree that Irene and Kai should definitely be paying visits to such places. Future plots . . .

Birgit You are coming to Austria?! Really? Can you already say when and where? Will you only enjoy the opera or might you be signing books there too? Pretty please :) Sorry for bugging you but it's the first time an author of one of my favorite series is coming to the itsy-pitsy tiny little country of mine ;)

Birgit, I'm going to be in Vienna from around the 3rd to the 8th of October. If you could give me the location of some suitable bookshop or cafe or something nearer the time, I'm sure we could meet up and I could sign copies. (There must be some way to sort it out without you having to bring copies along to Don Giovanni...)

Rick "Our Heros" could go to a version of Austria looking for the only manuscript of Mozart's "Requiem", finished by the composer BEFORE he died. Rumors describe it as 'breathtaking', 'merveilleux', 'trascendente'... The experience could be breathtaking and lead to the requiem of ???

An interesting thought! (makes note)

Rick Kai probably is a magnificent singer since music is a very 'ordered' language loved by dragons historically. Its probably a language Irene also knows from her training as a librarian. Who knows, maybe you CAN deduct the trip as research if events happen at the opera or if our heros end up "singing for their supper"..

We'll have to see. (And even if I can't call my trip to Don Giovanni research, I might be able to call my ticket to Tanz der Vampires important research...)

Sorry I have been on a very important mission and just returned. I know it's now very short notice but there is a small but very special bookshop (http://www.literaturbuffet.com/) in the 2nd district where you can grab a coffee and a book (Irene would probably love that too). I could arrange to be there on the 6th in the afternoon - and depending on how big you want to have it, I can ask the owner to promote or keep it a secret. I'll bring my dragon - ähm husband - too :)

The bookshop looks fun. I would be happy to show up and sign books for an hour or so, if you think the owner would like it - though I warn you that I don't speak German, except for a few words and "Ich verstehe nicht". (I think I have that correct?)

I asked the owner but he actually declined setting up something big. I would only be allowed to come there myself and drag some friends with me. It's just too short notice for him - I am devastated :(
And your German is perfect :)

Please don't apologise - I'd probably have been stressed if I had to cope with anything big. (It is my holiday, after all!) I'll be glad to meet up with you and your friends there and have a coffee and sign your books.

What time would work best? I don't have anything planned for the 6th, so I'm open to suggestions.

That's so great of you, I highly appreciate it - and I won't take much of your vacation time. We might even be able to give you some insider tips on Vienna ;)) How about 3 pm?
