Ugh. I hate that "between books" feeling. Had it bigtime when I finished Inkarna earlier this year. Luckily back on the horse now with book 3 of one of my series, as well as a collaboration with another author. Let's not talk about all my editing, shall we?
Kate - I guess. :) I'm also learning a lot about self-editing right now. And we do have to get the first twelve releases ready. Once the third editor joins us and we have the launch books ready, things will calm down a lot. :)Nerine - yeah, that's the low-energy trough. If it were for me, I'd be writing like a maniac ALL the time. :) Offer still stands - if you want to send us something m/m related, I'd love to have a look at it. :)
Aleksandr, trust me, if I were to write something m/m next, you'd be first on my list. Sadly, I'm embroiled in book three for Jamie, which is promised to Lyrical. Then there's that collab, which is a freebie self-promo. After that, I don't know. I have so many stories. My strongest characters at the moment are female. It's sometimes difficult balancing my love of editing with writing.
Alas, my publisher and my authors would weep without my work. And my own editor has threatened me with first-round edits on my lovely bisexual vampire story that skirts around some m/m.
Well, it depends on what sort of mood I'm in after a day slugging page layouts to print. Today I'm an evul bitch. Especially when it comes to abuse of past-continuous verbs.
Yeah - that or passive voice abuse, even worse with weak verbs. Had a text recently to edit that didn't have one strong verb and was half written in passive voice, needlessly. That's days when I want to crawl under a rock or cane somebody.
Generally I start flinging around snarky comments. My authors get "Holy sentence, Batman!" or "WTF is this?" or "Eh?" or just plain and simple "CUT!" in their tabbed love letters. Makes up for selling lies during the day. ;-)
LOL. :) I'm still doing the "patiently explaining" thing - I do hope to abbreviate a bit when I know the author better (and vice versa).
Is it bothering you to have to read a lot of boringly exaggerated phrases with way too many adverbs and sentences with passive/past perfect verb tenses that have to be corrected (like this mess I just wrote)?

You know. After prepping a galley file and now having to go deal with a midnight dinner for a hungry husband, I'm not going to say anything, okay? Okay, I've contradicted myself but I've reached that point in my evening where everything has become just that little bit strange and pixellated at the edges.

It's easier to cut the crap from there. It's a magic place where people fall into line around me in order to escape the wrath.
Given the flavour of the posts, it was very stressful writing that comment. Corrections on a postcard please...

Lots of work setting up and envisioning Riptide. Has to be sucking out lots of creative energy.
