It is almost Thanksgiving here in the United States!
Thanksgiving is generally a time for getting together with family and friends to share meals and play games. It can be a busy time of the year with lots of planning and cooking.
Another great way to celebrate Thanksgiving is through movement and storytelling. This is a perfect activity to bring calm to your hectic days.
We have been living in United States for almost eight years and have been enjoying the spectacular landscapes of this diverse country. We are very grateful for the opportunity to live in this beautiful country. Join me in giving thanks to nature through yoga poses for kids.

Thanksgiving Yoga sequence
Enjoy this Thanksgiving Yoga sequence inspired by the book, Thank You, World, where we give thanks to nature. You could start each pose by saying “I am grateful for …”. Feel free to add your own ideas, but notice that the sequence is in a yoga flow to make it easier to move from one kids yoga pose to the next.
Thank You, World
by Alice McGinty & Wendy Anderson Halperin
I am grateful for the …
1. Sun and Sky – Extended Mountain Pose
Stand tall in Mountain Pose, look up, and reach your arms up to the sky.
2. Birds – Warrior 3 Pose
Stand on one leg. Extend the other leg behind you. Bend your torso forward and take your arms out to the side. Flap your arms like the wings of a bird.
3. Trees – Tree Pose
Stand on one leg, bend your knee, place the sole of your foot on your inner thigh, and balance. Sway like a tree.
4. Kites in the Breeze – Triangle Pose
From a standing position, step one foot back, placing the foot facing slightly outwards, take your arms up parallel to the ground, bend at your waist, tilt your upper body, reach your front hand to gently rest on your shin, and reach your other arm straight up.
Pretend to be a kite flying in the wind.
5. Rain – Standing Forward Bend
From Mountain Pose, bend your upper body, reach for your toes,
and pretend to be the falling rain.
6. Flowers – Flower Pose
Come to sit on your buttocks with a tall spine, lift up your legs, balance on your sitting bones, touch the soles of your feet together, and weave your arms under your legs.
Blossom like a flower.
7. Moonlight – Easy Pose
Sit comfortably cross-legged. Cup your hands together, reach up, and look up at the moon.
8. Stars in the Sky – Resting Pose
Lie on your back with your arms and legs stretched out like a star. Breathe and rest.
