Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer's Support Group day. We share our thoughts - talk about our doubts and fears. Or we can offer a word of encouragement to others.

My post for July came from a comment I made on a post in June. Murees Dupe wrote about being her own worst enemy and how nasty her critical voice can be. I commented that instead of an internal critic why can't we have an internal cheerleader.Pow. Brilliant idea. How do I get one????
Except at this moment my internal critic is saying - totally stupid idea. A cheerleader would just approve everything. Your writing would be horrid - full of cliches and so on. 
To someone who might not know what I mean by internal critic - it's that voice in your head that criticizes every word you put on the page. It has the power to freeze your fingers and keep them from typing.  athenatrainingandconsulting.comMe - The cat is black.Critic - Really black? Of all the colours you chose black. Charcoal, much better option. And why not with stripes?Me - It's just a cat and it's black.Critic - Why not a stray? A panther. A feral feline.Me - Because the G.D. thing is a cat and it's black! Oh, forget it. ***Deletes sentence.***
A cheerleader would be encouraging. "You can do it!" - sort of thing. With it behind you, words might just flow from your finger tips.
clipartbest.comMe - The cat....Cheerleader - Way to go. We've got a cat!!! More. More.Me - Okay, this is weird. The cat is black.Cheerleader - **does back handsprings** - We have a black cat. Yay! Go team Black Cat.Me - wipes sweat from brow. Whew. Now on to the next line.Cheerleader - The next line. The next line. You can dooooo it!

She had to stop reading because she was crying her eyes out and she was out of tissues and her nose was running and she had to find some more tissue. She did add she was totally out and ended up using toilet paper :-)
