an escape, if only for one night

On Halloween people all over the world are celebrating a holiday that gives them the liberty to become anything they want. They're welcome to portray whatsoever to the world. So, people decorate, ready to frighten, dress up, create costumes, purchase masks and masquerade at the party in a chosen role for fun.

I must admit I saw some creative, bold, honorable and adorable costumes today on social media. Some of the costumes even made me laugh, jump, ooh and ahh they were so good. There were people preparing for parties, best costume contests and making great snack ideas! I mean people went all out this year. It was almost as festive, if not more, as the Christmas season. This concerns me.

Why? The truth of the matter is, although most are simply having fun, many are feeding a need that they didn't know existed within the soul. Many have heard of satanic rituals and sacrifices performed only on Halloween night, but they choose to not think about that aspect. It's easier that way. Whether its acknowledged or not there's more to the day than candy and a great costume; there's an evil in the atmosphere. The deal is to know who's side you are on...

It's dangerous ground to hide behind a mask... if only for one night.

Masking is dear to my heart because I masked everyday hiding until set free-to-be-me. I didn't need a national holiday to become "someone" else because I wore a mask to survive. Being me was too overwhelming at the time, so I lived behind walls I created for protection. Eventually, the mask has to come off OR you die trying to live.

What happens at midnight or when the party is over?

I wonder how some of the adults will be when they take off their costumes tonight. Will they be glad to step back into their own lives after having a little fun? Or will depression loom because the masquerade is over and now they have to find other means to hide who they are? It could be quite devastating for some people to come back to their reality.

Probably not too many think along these lines because it's an innocent act to "dress up". Perhaps, that's true for the children. But for the adults it could be a different story if they have used the party to get away and pretend. People are dying to escape their lives because they feel helpless and don't know which way to go.

I knew which way to go, but it took me a while to get there. Jesus is the way to becoming the true person who doesn't need a mask, an excuse or an escape route. Jesus is the escape, the route because He IS life.

This is not judgement on people who dressed up today, but its to expose motives in the lives of people who think they could never be free. It's a lie I once lived but now know the truth.

Only a person who wears a mask know the reason(s) why they do.
