Which is better: the chase or what comes after?
Happy Wednesday, peeps!
Hope you're all doing well. I woke up to the tinkly sound of rain drizzling its way down my gutters. The weather out here in California is a bit confused as of late. Someone needs to remind Mother Nature that it's mid May and the sun should be shining!
Now that my mini rant is over, I thought I'd talk about two important aspects of any romance novel: the chase, and what comes after (also typically known as HEA or happily ever after.)
If you're a fan or romance novels, and especially if you write romance, you know you have to give your characters a happily ever after. Whether it be at the end of the book, or if you're writing a series, at the end of book three, readers want to see the characters they've become so invested in happy and settled and with the one they love.
This brings me to my question for you today: which do you prefer, the chase or the happily ever after?
I love a good HEA just as much as the next person, but for me, you can't have a great HEA if the characters haven't had a good journey (chase.) I don't know about you, but I derive a great deal of pleasure in watching the hero and heroine play that back and forth dancing game of will they or won't they. I love screaming at the top of my lungs "kiss her already, dumbass!" and groaning in frustration when one of them does something really stupid that sets their relationship back a few paces.
So, to answer my own question, for me, while I love a good HEA it's the hero and heroines's journey that's most rewarding.
What about you?
