@thedaddycomplex is better than an Air Supply...

electradaddy:

@thedaddycomplex is better than an Air Supply song being covered by Bette Midler herself at a bathhouse. (That’s not to say that @thedaddycomplex listens to Air Supply or Bette Midler, for that matter, at bathhouses.)

Years ago when I first started this blog, not understanding anything about the social aspect of Tumblr (I thought it was just a blogging platform like WordPress but easier to use.), @thedaddycomplex reblogged one of my posts. That reblog introduced me to a bunch of new people and those people, in turn, introduced me to even more folks. So, I give @thedaddycomplex a lot of credit for helping get my blog off the ground.

@thedaddycomplex was also the first Tumblr I met in person. DynaPapa and I went to San Luis Obispo to see one of the musicals @thedaddycomplex wrote. (Yeah, @thedaddycomplex is like the straight version of Jerry Herman, except younger.)

Most people don’t realize that I suffer from incredible social anxiety. I recognized @thedaddycomplex instantly from his blog and pointed him out to DynaPapa who in a booming voice says, “Oh, that’s him?” I was all like, “Shhhh! He will hear you.” And DynaPapa asks, “Weren’t you supposed to meet him here?” and I was like, “Yeah, but he probably never thought I was serious about coming to the show, so let’s just sneak back into the auditorium and he’ll never know I was here.” But, @thedaddycomplex, being the nice guy he is, spotted me, walked over, and gave me a big hug.

And, each time I see @thedaddycomplex at Dad 2.0, he’s always inviting and welcoming, even if he does start off by saying, “For the thousandth time, I am not giving you Charlie’s (@how2beadad) cell phone number or home address. It’s for your own good, man!”

But, I have to say that the nicest thing of all is that when I needed an auction item for the Non-Profit, @thedaddycomplex readily sent me an autographed copy of his book. I don’t blog too much about the realities of having a child with an intellectual disability because the day-to-day grind of that experience is fraught with many emotions, some happy and some very sad. But, when a person eagerly steps forward to help the Non-Profit that helps enrich my son’s educational experience, I can’t let that go without sending a big thank you!

In fact, if he had Tom Hardy’s lips, Paul Newman’s eyes, and Simon Baker’s hair, I’d kiss him. But, since he’s another one of the 95 percenters on that straight bandwagon, I’ll just give him a shout out on my blog and a hands-above-the-waist hug the next time I see him.

Anytime, @electradaddy. I’m glad I could help in any way.

You’re doing God’s work. And by “God,” I mean Richard Rogers.
