30 day challenge - Day 8
A book I love and a book that I didn’t love.
One of my absolute favorite books of all time is Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice. I remember when it was first suggested to me by a coworker and I thought “I am not reading some stupid vampire book” and the coworker told me it was far more than just any vampire story. I took her word for it and gave it a try. I am so glad that I did because she was right - it was far more than just a vampire book - it was a story that grabbed me from the very beginning and one that has stayed with me for many, many years. The character of Louis spoke to me in a way that I didn’t understand at the time, but now truly knowing what depression is I see what drew me to him. This is a book that I have read multiple times and probably will continue to read again.
As for the book that I didn’t love - the one that stands out the most is Scarlet, the sequel to Gone With The Wind. I loved reading Gone With The Wind and found it to be an amazing book with depth and character that came alive off the page. Attempting to read this sequel was awful. It was if the writer had only read the Cliff’s Notes version of the original. I barely got 100 pages into it and wondered when anything was going to happen. I finally had to give up as all Scarlet seemed to do was say, I’ll think about it tomorrow. Such a waste.
