“Give me coffee! I'm going to write!”
Olavo Bilac

“E ainda imagino a minha taça cheia,
E emborco-a: "Oh! Vida!..."; e quero-a, e acho-a formosa,
Como se não soubesse quanto é feia!”
Olavo Bilac

“Não és bom, nem és mau: és triste e humano...
Vives ansiando, em maldições e preces,
Como se a arder no coração tivesses
O tumulto e o clamor de um largo oceano.

Pobre, no bem como no mal padeces;
E rolando num vórtice insano,
Oscilas entre a crença e o desengano,
Entre esperanças e desinteresses.

Capaz de horrores e de ações sublimes,
Não ficas com as virtudes satisfeito,
Nem te arrependes, infeliz, dos crimes:

E no perpétuo ideal que te devora,
Residem juntamente no teu peito
Um demônio que ruge e um deus que chora.”
