Resistance during WWII really fascinates me, so I was looking on Pinterest for pictures and facts about the German resistance. That's when I came across Sophie and Hans Scholl. Their story really touched me, so I got all the books about them I could get my hands on. When I read the full story of The White Rose resistance group, it made me cry ... to sit just sit there in awe and sorrow. Hans and Sophie were around my age and they had such a strong sense of right and wrong that they were willing to die in the fight against evil. I wanted the world to know about them and be inspired by their story as I have been.

That’s what I did with WWII and I found a very welcoming, authentic, and all around awesome group of people! I also started a WWII reenactor series on my blog so if you'd like to learn more about different groups and impressions, hop on over!

Omaha Beach 75 Years Later

“The ramps flew down spilling men, guns, and equipment on to the hell that was the shore of France. Many say now that it was a good thing most were ‘green’ troops, for many a veteran ‘froze’ that day.”
The cool, salty water laps at the shore of Omaha Beach in calm movements. The air is light, warm, breezy, peaceful. Seventy-five years ago, the cries of the wounded carried on the breeze, mingling with vo... Read more of this blog post »

Tell Me How It Ends by Valeria Luiselli
“Because—how do you explain that it is never inspiration that drives you to tell a story, but rather a combination of anger and clarity? How do you say: No, we do not find inspiration here, but we find a country that is as beautiful as it is broken, and we are somehow now part of it, so we are also broken with it, and feel ashamed, confused, and sometimes hopeless, and are trying to figure out how to do something about all that.”
Valeria Luiselli

“He laughed, and so did I. When I looked at him, my heart flip-flopped … like a fish on land. That’s not a very romantic simile, is it?”
Emily Ann Putzke, Ain't We Got Fun

“The world does not need more Christian literature. What it needs is more Christians writing good literature.”
C.S. Lewis

“These are the few ways we can practice humility:

To speak as little as possible of one's self.

To mind one's own business.

Not to want to manage other people's affairs.

To avoid curiosity.

To accept contradictions and correction cheerfully.

To pass over the mistakes of others.

To accept insults and injuries.

To accept being slighted, forgotten and disliked.

To be kind and gentle even under provocation.

Never to stand on one's dignity.

To choose always the hardest.”

“God doesn't ask that we succeed in everything, but that we are faithful. However beautiful our work may be, let us not become attached to it. Always remain prepared to give it up, without losing your peace.”
Mother Teresa, The Joy in Loving: A Guide to Daily Living

“Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did.”
Sophie Scholl
