If I have a chance, I'll probably catch up on Janet Evanovich and Clive Cussler novels. I might even reread some of my favorite Agatha Christie stories.(less)

This question has taken some thought. My life has never been very mysterious. That may be why I love a good mystery so much. However, there was one incident when my brother and I were young.

I don't recall how old we were at the time. We were in elementary school so it was either in the late 60's or early 70's. We lived 13 miles from the nearest town and our closet neighbor other than our grandparents was more than a mile away.

We were outside playing near the road. A shiny black car drove past us, then stopped, and backed up. The driver was a man with gray hair. He asked us if we wanted some candy. We didn't know the man and we had always been told to never take candy from strangers. We said "No, thank you."

The man tossed two pieces of candy out the window and drove away. I remember hearing him laugh. I thought it was an evil laugh. My brother and I ran as fast as we could to the house leaving the candy where in lay at the edge of the dirt road.

We never saw him again and never learned his identity. From that day on, if we heard a car coming while we were near the road, we ran for the house before it was anywhere near us.

Chances are that the man was a neighbor or someone that knew us or our parents. He was probably laughing at our reaction.

I'm usually not as fan of the supernatural books. Once I started this one I couldn't put it down. Great story.
