I'm working on book three in the Heroes of Fortune Valley series. Book 1, Breaking Emily's Rules, is out on 2/1/17. Book two, now titled Airman to the Rescue, is complete and with the editors. Release date is 6/1/17.

Book 3 still doesn't have an official title. I call it 'Baby, it's You' and it's the first time I've written a marriage of convenience. Here's the (very) unofficial blurb:

Levi Lambert receives the shock of his life when he finds out about the baby daughter he never realized he had. Forced to separate from the Air Force, Levi finds that raising a baby is harder than it looks. In over his head, he has no choice but to reach out to his pretty, single and stuck-up neighbor for help. She’s a woman, so she should be good with babies. Right?

Carly Gilmore works from home, but that doesn’t mean she’s always available to the playboy hunk that moved in next door with his adorable baby. She has a business to run, and even if that business is an online baby clothing and supplies company, she has zero experience with the real thing. Not that her neighbor cares. What kind of father leaves his baby with a complete stranger? Suddenly it’s Carly's duty to help, but she’s not pleased when both baby and hunk weasel their way into her heart and home.

Hart of Dixie vs. Gilmore Girls

Recently, for purposes of research (this is my life, yup) I had to look into a series similar to Gilmore Girls. The first one that came up again and again as being most like GG in tone was Hart of Dixie. So I decided to check it out. It’s only 4 seasons long, which is not so good  for the fan in me, but good for the writer on deadline in me.

I confess, from here on out, every southern hero that...

“Genevieve’s “I Love You” Birthday Cake 2 ¾ cups sifted cake flour (unbleached) 4 tsps. baking powder ¾ tsp. salt 4 egg whites (organic) 1 ½ cups white sugar ¾ cup butter (do NOT substitute) 1 cup milk (organic) 1 tsp. PURE vanilla extract 1 tsp. almond extract Measure sifted cake flour, baking powder, and salt; sift together three times. In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add ½ cup of sugar gradually, and continue beating only until meringue will hold up in soft peaks. In a separate bowl, beat butter until smooth. Gradually add remaining 1 cup of sugar, and cream together until light and fluffy. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk a small amount at a time, beating each addition until smooth. Mix in flavorings. Add meringue, and mix thoroughly into batter. Spread batter in a 15x10x1 inch pan which has been lined on the bottom with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool cake in pan 10 minutes, then remove from pan and transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. You can also bake this cake in two 9 inch round pans for 30 to 35 minutes, or in three 8 inch round pans for 25 to 30 minutes.”

“Is something wrong?” Ivey asked. Lillian picked up a file, stared at it, and put it back down. “You could say that. This morning I found an orderly and a nurse in a closet, and they weren’t looking for supplies. Dr. Harrison has taken an ill-timed vacation, since his wife threatened that if he didn’t come along she’d go by herself and not come back. So I’m short staffed again. And then there’s this desk. Who ever heard of a desk without drawers? It’s beautiful, but why do I feel like I’m Uhura on Star Trek? I’d like to strangle the designer.”

“But this is why you would save money with the midwifery program. The hospital can save money when a midwife delivers a baby,” Ivey said, but suddenly the problem dawned on her like a pink zebra in the room. Doctors, pressed between onerous HMOs breathing down their backs and struggling hospitals, felt their livelihoods threatened. She’d heard this story before. “You can imagine how well it went over with the doctors on staff. I only have three of them on the L&D floor. It’s hard enough to keep them here. Malpractice insurance costs, rising health care costs, and now the Affordable Health Care Act.” Lillian waved a hand in the air.”
