Her Nardvan stories span continents, millennia and cultures. Some involve shapeshifters and magic. Others include space stations, plasma rifles and cyborgs.

She has published over thirty stories and poems including the five books in her YA epic fanasty - Under the Mountain novella series -as well as Ruhanna's Flight and Other Stories, and her debut novel, Akrad's Children - a Young Adult secondary world fantasy fiction with adventure, courtly intrigue and romantic elements.

It's not a future or distant earth or set on an exo-planet in our galaxy. It has it's own reality.

Why did I want to write it? I'm not sure it was a conscious choice. When I was 8 or 9, influenced by the Narnia books, I began making up stories in a different world and over time, those stories grew into a world, Nardva. (less)

What I love about writing fantasy is the breadth of research - I might be researching how fast horses can transverse a distance compared to humans walking, or the properties of vines and bridges across ravines, or different fighting styles, or different marriage customs or how glass has been used or the differences between bronze and iron weapons, or different geological features like caves and mountains or the phases of the moon. Astronomy, geography, politics, technology, language, cultures, beliefs and values - it's all grist for the mill. (less)

November Update – Interviews, Book Events & Specials

Hard to believe that’s it’s almost December.  The last few months have brought a slew of conventions and other opportunities along with a few family crises.

Friday Feature Interview

In November, I was thrilled to be interviewed by Eric Klein about the world of Nardva. My last interview with Eric focused more on the Under the Mountain series, whereas this one highlighted the Akrad’s Legac

“It is perhaps one of those imponderables of life that many people declare their dislike for poetry, yet it surrounds us in the lyrics of the songs and hymns we love, the catchy advertising jingles, in picture books, and remembered snippets from Shakespeare or remembered and much loved verses. Yes, I've found that a bit frustrating too.

Jeanette I am wondering why Good Reads will only allow the name and the not the book/article when referencing a quote. To me that seems less than full attribution and makes it much harder to check whether a quote is genuine or has been cited accurately or not.

For instance, I want to know that C S Lewis said "I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." in his book from the essay "Is Theology Poetry?" in his book Weight of Glory.

I want less free floating quotes clogging up the internet and facebook and more careful attribution. Is that just the academic in me? What do you think?
