I'm a published author from Annapolis, Maryland. I am a University of Maryland grad and a member of SCBWI. Fun fact--I'm descended from an accused seventeenth-century Chesapeake witch (I kind of love that!).

My next enchanting ever-after, KOUSH HOLLOW, a YA novel set in New Orleans will be released by The Parliament House in Fall 2020.

My first two YA novels, BEWITCHING HANNAH and DISENCHANTED, are both available at Amazon.

First of all, let me apologize for not responding faster to your question. I’ve been finishing up my next novel and haven’t been on my Goodreads page in awhile ☹. Secondly, I see that you’re a Pennsylvania girl—me, too! I was born in Bucks County, but currently reside in Maryland.

Now, to answer your question—what inspired me to write that ending? Love. One of my favorite quotes from Disenchanted is when Sophie says, “The power within me that was greater than magic—I had wondered all this time what it was, and now I understood. Love…” Sophie loves Alexavier so much she wants to free him of that damned true love curse her wicked ancestor cast on his family, no matter the consequences. When she wakes up after the Seeking and asks about Alexavier, and her aunt has to explain that the boy doesn’t know Sophie any more—ugh! It was a difficult scene to write because I really felt Sophie’s heart breaking. However, I’m a firm believer in happily ever-afters, so I made sure my little witch got one ;)

The most striking story was that of Rebecca Greensmith, who was not afraid to hide what she was. She admitted to having conversations with the devil, claiming to form a pact with him, as well as colluding with other witches in the woods. Her shocking confession along with, in Reverend Mather's judgement, her lack of fear for God, her familiarity with the devil, and her involvement in unnatural events was enough for him to condemn her to death by hanging.

The striking contrast in beliefs between Rev. Mather and Goody Greensmith left me to wonder…what if Rebecca's story didn't end there? After all, she had an alliance with a powerful figure and a reputation for hexing neighbors…who's to say she didn't have time to take her vengeance on the puritanical Mather bloodline before the noose slipped over her neck?

A Bewitching Tour Around Historic Annapolis

Bewitching Hannah

In my new young adult novel, Bewitching Hannah, the reader will get to see historic Annapolis through the eyes of my main character, sixteen-year-old Hannah Fitzgerald, a most reluctant Chesapeake witch.

The first sight Hannah encounters on her return to Annapolis is Witch’s Grave in Truxton Park. According to local lore, the crooked tree marks the burial site of three witches who Read more of this blog post »

“This time, I invited it in. I felt the darkness tame my impetuous nature, allowing me to feed slowly on the hatred and control it. The coldness flowed through my veins and to the lengths of each limb. The icy darkness pooled in my chest and chilled my heart.”

“I threw my hands on my hips, shocked by the irony. A Mather helping a Greensmith? Hell was freezing over somewhere beneath our feet and every kind of farm animal was sprouting wings to fly.”

“He kissed me tenderly as my heart thumped out of control. My fingers slipped into his thick, black hair and held tightly. He paused, not wanting to pull away. I didn’t let him. I was going to say goodbye properly. I held tightly, pressing my lips to his, soft at first then hard with desire.”
