She could picture the moment almost perfectly. She would be naked, in the corner, waiting for her impending punishment. She would have showered beforehand, and drops of water from her hair would run down her back, making her shiver with anticipation. #Spanking Round Table: Where Does Your Spanking Fancy Come From?

Welcome to the newest Spanking Round Table Discussion hosted this week by Spanking Romance Reviews and Joelle Casteel.

Here are the questions that Joelle presented to us.

.* How do you understand the difference between an ownership- or a humiliation-focus in writing and/or in real life?
* If you live some level of DD, BDSM, include spanking in your relationship- do your practices focus more on ownership or humiliation?
* When you’re reading spanking fiction, do you have a preference for either of these focuses? Or does it even matter to you?
* And of course, feel free to add your own comments and questions- after all, I come to this conversation as a reader of DD/spanking fiction, but an author of BDSM fiction.

I will try to answer them and add my own thoughts into the mix. I want to start off by saying I don't think there are right or wrong answers to any of these. I think it is a matter of perspective, personal experience, and most importantly semantics. I believe the terms used today are misunderstood in the context that they are used. While I do not consider myself owned I do want to be loved, cared for, and dominated. I desire a partner that has more say so than I do, but who does it with our mutual best interests in mind. Though for me personally the term owned has negative connotations to the point of possibly being a trigger (unless used exclusively sexually) I understand that being owned to one person is the same as being under the care of a loving HOH or Dominant to another. Maybe the word means the exact same thing or is similar enough to be comparable with subtle differences.

Humiliation on the surface does not seem to be comparable to being owned. It's not an either/or situation. However, in the context of someone defining being owned as feeling loved and cared for I can see it's opposite affect. Humiliation is one of those words that are used in the spanking community that have multiple definitions. Humiliation is defined on Wikipedia as:

an abasement of pride, which creates mortification or leads to a state of being humbled or reduced to lowliness or submission. It is an emotion felt by a person whose social status has just decreased. It can be brought about through intimidation, physical or mental mistreatment or trickery, or by embarrassment if a person is revealed to have committed a socially or legally unacceptable act. Whereas humility can be sought alone as a means to de-emphasize the ego, humiliation must involve other person(s), though not necessarily directly or willingly. Acting to humiliate oneself may be linked to a personal belief (as with mortification of the flesh, with some religions), or it can be part of erotic humiliation where the belittling activity provides emotional and/or sexual arousal or heightened sensation.

While I can see where Joelle is coming from in seeing humiliation as an unloving act in reading certain aspects of the above definition. I think the fine line is where the individual person defines it and the affect it has on the person who feels humiliated. I would feel humiliated in a negative way if my husband dressed me down (called me out/lectured) in public. It would erode my trust. While the humiliation that many of us spoke about during the last round table discussion was the kind of humiliation that comes with being humbled or submitting. Certain acts of being taken in hand, disciplined, or even certain sexual acts may create a feeling of embarrassment or exposure and a deep desire to submit, but it is not the harmful type of humiliation. As long as our boundaries are being respected it is a loving gesture. 

Last discussion's topic for me falls into the deliciously humiliating realm. I may not be able to get beyond my inhibitions to try this type of play without my husband's dominant act. I personally like to be actively taken in hand. I like the dominance and the feeling of not being in control. So we add these things into the punishment category. It works because it creates a deep feeling of submission. I am not naturally submissive and I like to be made to submit. That is part of my kink. It has to be done in a firm but loving way or I would not feel safe. 

In spanking stories I like for the dominant/hoh to be firm and loving. In these stories I prefer one partner being in charge with the other partner submissive but cared for, valued, and listened to. Domestic Discipline is fraction or discipline focused and that is what I enjoy reading the most (although I do like a lot of variety.) I enjoy reading about the discipline in detail, especially spanking scenes. Mild non-con is hot to me in fiction. (The real life solution to this is consensual non-consent. Aka: a blanket permission. True real life non-con would have me calling the police!) In these stories the heroine tends to eventually if not at the time feel safe and cared for and even turned on by this. If there was ever true humiliation I would not enjoy the story, but the kind of humiliation that leads to being humbled and learning is hot to me. 

In summary I think that many differences in the community boil down a couple things. One big one is semantics. Our differing definitions and connotations of certain words. That is hugely prevalent even with those that come from similar backgrounds. Another is whether the relationship is Discipline/submission focused or Submission/sexual bdsm focused. Don't get me wrong, for many couples who practice the former it is sexual as well, but in a much more subtle way and that is a whole other topic. I think in the end when the differences come to the forefront of the conversation we have to take a step back and decide okay this might be negative for me, but is positive for them and that is okay. Live and let live and try to find your common points. We are all valid and we should stand proud in what we like and who we are. There is nothing wrong with that.

Release Day! New Author Jitters - A Brush of Violet #CorbinsBend #SpankingRomance

It's release day! I can hardly believe the day is finally here! The buy links haven't gone live yet and I will be on pins and needles until they do. Thus is the plight of every author. While I wait ever so patiently I thought I'd talk a little bit about myself and how I wound up at this place in my journey. If you didn't know this already, and most of you probably do, I am a full fledged card carrying spanko. Finding my first spanking romance was probably one of the biggest thrills of my life. This was many moons ago when aol was still the main search engine everywhere on the web. It wasn't until 6 years ago that I fully started exploring what this means. It has been a fun journey! The biggest thing I've learned is to be authentically true to myself in all that I do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting your freak flag fly because believe it or not everyone has one. It may be different from someone else's, but it's there all the same. I say that because I've spent a lot of time hiding this aspect of myself from everyone in my life. I still don't feel like everyone needs to know all the private details, but in general this is who I am. I should be proud of that right? We all should be proud of who we are.



I was thrilled to be invited to write a book for the Corbin's Bend series. What a great way to start out your writing career! I was originally supposed to be a part of season one, but family situations arose and this had to be delayed. So the wait has been long, but the time has finally arrived! Writing for the Corbin's Bend series is like being enclosed in a warm & fuzzy bubble. The CB writing community is similar to the CB community in the books. Everyone is uber supportive, enthusiastic, and willing to work with each other. Thianna & Staci are amazing to work with. I feel completely spoiled.


Here are some random facts about me to tide you over until the book goes live:

What is your favorite genre of spanking romance to read? I love almost all genres of spanking romance but my favorites are paranormal/fantasy, sci-fi, and utopian.

What was the first book that contained spanking that you ever read? I believe it was a Johanna Lindsey novel. I could be wrong, though, because I devoured a romance novel a day when I was a teenager. There were several authors whose books contained spankings and other kink.

Who was the author of the first spanking romance that you read? Aside from the short stories I found on the web the first spanking novel I ever read was written by Carolyn Faulkner. It was such a thrill to happen across it! I wish I remembered the name of it. It was a cowboy novel. When Blushing Books opened their big store I was in heaven.

What other kinks do you like in your spanking novels? Anal play for sure (ie: ginger, plugs, temperature taking etc.) I also like a little hair pulling among other things.

What is your favorite implement: Belt

What is your favorite non-spanking punishment: Enforced nudity

Who is your favorite author from another genre? Diana Gabaldon is my favorite author of my favorite series of all time.

Welcome to my stop on the WIP It Up Wednesday blog hop! With my brand spanking new novel, A Brush of Violet, coming out on November 5th I will be sharing small teasers to put us all in the mood! I'm going to start at the beginning and post a little each week until release day. Seeing Violet’s stricken look she burst with peals of laughter. “I’m kidding! Oh my God, the look on your face,” she exclaimed, laughing even harder. “In all seriousness, I simply filled out an application. The board is usually willing to make accommodations for self-employment needs as long as it isn’t anything crazy. Plus I’ve started teaching classes to the kids here.” “You’re mean to play a trick like that on me when I just got here.” Violet pouted, smacking her friend hard on the shoulder. “This is a spanking community isn’t it?” she said, giggling despite herself. “That is pretty great of them to be so accommodating.” “Yes, it is a spanking community, but business is kept pretty separate, goofy.” The timer went off and they dug into the piping hot pizza. She was correct in her assumption of gourmet. Slices of fresh tomatoes topped the whole wheat crust with mozzarella, shiitake mushrooms, fresh basil, and grilled chicken. The aroma was out of this world. They grabbed their pizza and wine and went to settle onto the couch. Now this is a couch you can sink into, Violet thought reveling in the comfort of the deep cushions. She took a bite and her teeth sunk into a little slice of heaven. “Oh my God, I don’t know how you do it,” she groaned with appreciation. They ate in companionable silence for a minute just enjoying the comfort of good food and good company. “How long’s Robert gone for?” Violet asked around her bite of pizza. Everleigh look a small sip of wine before answering, “Just over a month.” She paused to gather her hair up into a loose bun. “He’s trying to get all of his business there wrapped up in one fell swoop. I think he’s hoping not to leave any loose ends because after we get married he does not want to have to travel so far again.” Violet wiped her mouth with a napkin. “That sounds promising. Do you think you will be alright with him gone so long?” Worry tugged at her mind knowing how flighty her friend could get when in creation mode. She was an artist through and through and when she immersed herself into a project she was lost to this world until she finished it. Violet knew Robert was the rock that kept Everleigh grounded to the world around her. This was where the DD came in. They used it as a tool in their relationship and this was one of the areas it covered. From what Violet understood they set up some rules and expectations that they both wanted in their relationship and daily lives. Robert kept Everleigh accountable for her part of things. One of those things happened to be staying connected to the world around her. Ever had a habit of forgetting to eat, sleep, and any other necessities involved in life when she was swept up in a project. If it kept her friend happy and healthy, Violet had no issue. In fact, she was pretty sure it was the spanking that added the extra pizzazz and closeness of their relationship. Everleigh was happier than she had ever seen. Her best friend had always had a thing for the alpha types.  She had always loved being pulled into the presence of a commanding man who made her his priority of focus. Violet had to admit it was intoxicating to be held in the focus of a man like Robert. She was no stranger to that feeling of being completely consumed. Her ex had been just like that for her. Meeting him just as she was transitioning from high school to college he made every cell of her body sing. There was this yin and yang about him that both settled her and made her feel more alive than she had ever been. John had been a little feral, a little authoritative, and a lot alpha. He called up something inside of her that needed to be completely possessed by him. God, she missed that!  Sighing, Violet shook herself out of her reverie. Her independent nature was too at odds with a relationship like that. Her mom had nipped that relationship in the bud before it had gone too far. Something like that could be great for Ever, but not for her. She remembered how horrified her Mother had been when she found out that Violet had been “letting someone else tell her what to do, and a man at that” after she overheard them talking one day. She was sure her Mom had picked up on the vibe between them as well. She was not going to let any daughter of hers submit to a man. The Harris ladies were strong women who made their own way in the world. The world bowed to them, not the other way around. Working hard to meet both her mom’s expectations and her own she graduated college with her MBA landing a job in business mergers and acquisitions within a week from graduation. She knew her mother was right; yet she spent many of nights yearning for just that. The world around her snapped back into focus as Everleigh answered her question. “I think it will be okay.” She nodded. “I wasn’t sure at all at first,” Everleigh confessed, looking a little forlorn, “but we have a plan for while he’s away and I think it’s going to work out just fine. I have great neighbors who will check in on me, plus you’re here,” she said with a smile and a wink. “We have a schedule of nightly video chat sessions to stay connected and make sure I’m on track. To be honest my plan is to stay as busy as possible the rest of the time,” she said with a sigh. Opting to change the subject, she asked with a mischievous look in her eye, “So when was the last time you had a man in your bed?” They stayed up late laughing, teasing, and catching up, not going to bed until the wee hours of the morning.
