Ashley Elliott is a writer, reader, musician, photographer, tree-climber, and Leaguette. She speaks fluently in movie quotes and spends most of her time fangirling over her latest obsession. In her free time, she enjoys laughing with her friends, laughing over Christian indie films (but secretly loving them), and laughing with her five crazy siblings. Ashley is a homeschool graduate and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Humanities through CollegePlus. She lives in Georgia with her parents and siblings, and doesn't have any pets.

Not really, to be completely honest. I know what happens ten, fifteen years down the road, but I've never had enough material to grant an entire sequel. I feel like I've told Nikki's story and need to let her move on with her life without added drama from me. ; )(less)
Ashley Elliott Because. Which is the answer to all of life's questions.

(Also, I hate you. Platonically.)

quote feminist angelou frenchbydesign blogOne of my least favorite things about feminism doesn’t actually have much to do with feminism in and of itself.  I’m talking about always having to explain how feminism doesn’t actually promote a negative effect on men.  (As if feminism is about men in the first place???)  (Also, having to do the whole “whhhelllll, I’m a second-wave feminist, I don’t actually think men are evil, I don’t think w...

I certainly didn't know how much language it had. (Literally, were half of the characters sailors?!)

However, I didn't expect to fall in love with this book. I didn't expect to fall in love with the story, characters

Okay, I’m gonna say it.

This book was better than anything John ever wrote.

Now, I love him to bits and pieces. I really, really do. But there’s only so much you can take.

And maybe I’m wrong to compare brothers. (Okay, I’m probably wrong.)

But this book

“Never Alone!”
Wayne Thomas Batson, The Door Within

Wayne Thomas Batson
“There are passages and doors
And Realms that lie unseen.
There are Roads both wide and narrow
And no avenue between.
Doors Remain closed for those
Who in sad vanity yet hide.
Yet when Belief is chosen,
The key appears inside.
What is lived now will soon pass,
And what is not will come to Be.
The Door Within must open,
For one to truly see.
Do you see?
Believe and enter.”
Wayne Thomas Batson, The Door Within

Jeanne Birdsall
“Jane,' she said, climbing down from the chair. 'Remember last year when I built that model wind tower for you and you wrote those poems for me?'

And you said you'd never switch homework assignments with me again.'

For good reason. My teacher had a hard time believing I wrote Tra-la the joy of tulips blooming, Ha-ha the thrill of bumblebees zooming. I'm alive and I dance, I'm alive though death is always looming. When I finally convinced her that I had, she asked me if I needed to talk to the school counselor.”
Jeanne Birdsall, The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

“...even a tiny bit of deceit is dishonorable when it's used for selfish or cowardly reasons.

- Mr. Penderwick”
Jeanne Birdsall, The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

Jeanne Birdsall
“And I don't know if Batty's gotten over it yet,' said Skye.

Mr. Penderwick looked out the window to where Batty was playing vampires with Hound. Hound was on his back, trying to wiggle out of the black towel Batty had tied around his neck. Batty was leaping over Hound's water bowl, shrieking, 'Blood, blood!'

'She looks all right,' he said.”
