My love for steamy romance began when I was in junior high. A friend and I noticed a dumpster of discarded paperbacks behind our local dime store. Covers missing and each book split down the spine, I scanned the pages for any love or lust words—and curse words, too. From that point on, I scoured the public library and the paperback racks at every store, reading anything labeled romance. I said a tearfully grateful goodbye to Judy Bloom, and Jackie Collins began ruling my world.

I live with my high school sweetheart husband in the desert Southwest. Awesome in the winter, not so much in the summer.

My life long goals are to think before I speak, smile more and swear less, and actually weigh what my driver's license states I do.

It's really a wing and a prayer thing for me! And to see you use the word 'success' in the same sentence as my book makes me a little weepy. Honestly. In my mind, I'm nowhere near that word, yet. My expectations are unrealistically high and since Next To Me is only about 4 days post release and my first ever, I'm still waiting with bated breath. The fact that a few people seem to like it thrills me beyond belief. On one hand, I hope every single person loves it so much, they tell their gynecologist's about it. On the other hand, I'm waiting for the review where I'm decimated all over the internet, told even if I wrote the next 'Harry Potter' nobody would buy it, and P.S. my ass looks fat in these jeans. Just about any writer will tell you, self-doubt is a cruel oppressor. What can I say? I need therapy. (less)

“Sleep, honey. We can play later.” And if she hadn't seen it with her own tired eyes, she never would've believed it. Like the snuffing of a candle, he was asleep in seconds. Burning red hot one moment, a ghost of dissipating smoke the next.

Hope inventoried his unguarded face, softer and so much younger in sleep, his enviably long lashes hiding the ever present jadedness. Fatigue pulled at her and she fought it, forcing her eyes open when they drifted shut.

“I'm not gonna fall in love with you, Beck. I'm gonna leave you in August.”

She whispered the vow to a man in deep sleep. To a room cast in shadow. To a house steeped in tradition. To a woman mired in denial.

Sleep took her quickly, quicker than she wanted, and with it came the mocking sound of her surely spoken promise, echoing in her dreams like a school yard taunt.”

“The feel of him leaving her body, then leaving her bed to disappear into the bathroom, made Ali feel exposed. And more importantly, uncertain. How exactly did this usually go? Should she ask him to stay the night or say her thank you's and walk him to the door? Maybe make an appointment for tomorrow? Pencil him into her schedule for a hot and sweaty bang, same time, same place, kind of thing?”
Jodi Watters, Next to Me

“So. I, uh...” Beck ran a hand across the back of his neck, watching as Nolan leaned so far back in the office chair, it was dangerously close to tipping over. Or breaking in half. “I fucked up pretty badly.”

“Yeah? What did you do? Wash your whites with colors? Have eleven items in the ten or less line at the grocery store? Sleep with a married chick?” Nolan chuckled to himself at that last part, knowing Beck wouldn't stoop to something so low as adultery.

“I slept with Ash's sister.” The stunned look on Nolan's face would've been hysterical, if Beck had been talking about anything even remotely humorous. When the man remained mute, staring at him as if he'd grown another head, Beck couldn't help himself. “Only we didn't sleep.”

It was a full three seconds before Nolan blinked. “You're gonna die.” The somber statement of fact was barely more than a whisper.”
