Welcome to my home on Goodreads.

A little about me: I'm the author of the novels WATCH ME DISAPPEAR, ALL WE EVER WANTED WAS EVERYTHING, and THIS IS WHERE WE LIVE. My books have been New York Times bestsellers and published in a dozen countries around the world. My books tend to be page-turners with dysfunctional family relationships at their hearts; while my first two books were more satirical, my latest is a suspense. I'm also very much a California writer, and my books are set across the state.

I'm always happy to answer questions here, but you can also find me on Facebook and Twitter -- and if you visit http://www.janellebrown.com you can also sign up for my newsletter.

I've known I wanted to be a novelist ever since I was in first grade,

So the book evolved a lot as I wrote it, and the twists and turns evolved with it. I've found that to be true for all three of my books, actually - they change organically during the writing process, as the characters come to life.(less)

More of Janelle's books…
“Maybe when you're young, you love people as much for their potential as for who they are right now. And if that's the case, what happens to love when time passes and that potential starts to shrivel and fade? Does love die with it?”
Janelle Brown, This Is Where We Live

“Real life is just a never-ending string of compromises that you make in order to survive”
Janelle Brown, This Is Where We Live

“All people are unknowable, no matter how close you may think you are. Of the millions of thoughts we all think every day, of the millions of experiences we have, how many do we allow other people to know about? A handful? And no one willingly shares their worst, do they? The flaws you see, those are like the very tip of an iceberg. So we’re all just poking around on the surface, trying to figure out the people we love with a kind of, I guess, naïve idealism.”
Janelle Brown, Watch Me Disappear
