Joe O'Connell's novel EVACUATION PLAN was loosely inspired by volunteer work he did in a residential hospice. The novel-in-stories style is reminiscent of Tim O'Brien's JULY JULY.

Joe's short fiction has been widely pubished in such journals as The G.W. Review, Other Voices, Lullwater Review and Confrontation and has won first prize at both the Deep South Writers Conference and the Louzelle Barclay Awards.

Formerly a newspaper reporter concentrating on politics, he currently pens columns about the Texas film industry for the Dallas Morning News and The Austin Chronicle.

He teaches writing to gradute students at St. Edward's University and undergrads at Austin Community College.
