This isn't restricted to what was new in 2017, but what I actually watched and read - some of these items might be very old indeed.

Books:

I read the following in 2017:

Really enjoyed this fictionalised documentation of the Brahan Seer (Scotland's Nostradamus), who I hadn't heard of prior to reading this novel. Thompson creates a poetic, believeable 17th Century, where magic sits - if not companionably - at least co ...more

I was intrigued by the back cover blurb of this title, but unfortunately the writing style diametrically opposed my level of enjoyment. Very middle-class, far too much consideration over what the characters are eating and drinking (much of that over ...more

Andrew is starting Interface: This is a cracking crime novel, about as hard-boiled as they come; superbly paced and brimming with danger. It also includes the best car chase I think I've ever read in a novel - and considering I'm not even a fan of such in movies that's really saying something. Involving, frenetic, and clever, this was an excellent read, especially the totally left-of-centre perfect ending.

I'm a big Tom Robbins fan so reading and enjoying this memoir was a no-brainer. Packed with humour and anecdotes this is an insightful companion to those novels which have influenced my life (and sometimes my fiction).
